Hummingbirds are everywhere. We are here to tell their stories!
Who are the Hummingbirds?
Hummingbirds are an ever-growing species of human. Even though they may seem tiny and their resources limited, they are determined. Hummingbirds may fly lower than the eagles, but they are committed to making their communities and the world a better place. Human Hummingbirds are attracted to flocks of similarly determined creatures. There is no guarantee of success, no personal financial payoff, but they carry on.
The choice of name comes from the parable of the hummingbird who takes it upon herself to battle a forest fire while the other animals, large and small, flee and watch in fear as their home burns down. From the safety of a nearby stream, they see a lone hummingbird flying back and forth from the water to the fire with drops of water in her beak. The other animals, who have clearly given up, ask why she is bothering since she is too small to make a difference. She answers, "I am doing the best that I can.”
Why Hummingbird Rising?
Hummingbird Rising recognizes that the crucial change makers are not the public figures, not the names we read about on a regular basis in mainstream media. Positive change happens when many less seen forces of change join in, bringing determination and commitment into the public consciousness. What was flying under the radar becomes mainstream. Hummingbirds have the power to change the world.
Hummingbird Rising aspires to the concept that change happens when an idea reaches a tipping point, when enough people subscribe to it making change inevitable.
Through storytelling the Hummingbird community will encourage more to join the “flock.” It will help foster connections and a unity of purpose among change makers by highlighting projects, organizations, events, and issues of importance.
